Becoming a dutch citizen through naturalisation
On this page you can read information about becoming a Dutch citizen through naturalisation. The option procedure is cheaper and faster. However, not everyone is eligible for it. The option procedure is subject to specific conditions. Read about the option conditions on the website of the Immigration and Naturalisation Service.
You apply for Dutch citizenship through naturalisation by making an appointment at the municipality. Call (0317) 49 29 11. On the phone, you will go through a checklist. Are all your documents complete? Then we will make an appointment with you. If your documents are not in order during the telephone call, we will ask you to put them in order first before arranging an appointment.

A valid passport or other travel document.
A valid residence permit.
A birth certificate, if you have never shown it to the municipality before.
A civic integration diploma.
You wish to apply for Dutch citizenship with an application for naturalisation. One of these situations will apply to you:
You have lived in Holland, Aruba, Curaçao or Sint Maarten for 5 years or more continuously with a valid residence permit.
You have been married to, or the registered partner of, a Dutch citizen for at least 3 years.
You have lived with your spouse/registered partner (in the Netherlands or abroad) during this period of at least 3 years.
You have been living with a Dutch person in the Netherlands continuously for 3 years.

You will pay the cost of the naturalisation application during the application at the office.
After your naturalisation application, the municipality assesses your case. On the basis of this assessment, an opinion will be given.
Your application will be sent to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (INS) along with our opinion.
Has your application been approved? Then you will receive an invitation from us for a naturalisation ceremony. You are officially a Dutch citizen only after you have made the declaration of commitment.
Through naturalisation. You must then submit an application to become a Dutch citizen. The King will decide on your application. By option. You then declare by means of an option statement that you wish to become a Dutch citizen. The mayor will decide on your application.
