All you need to know about voting, the voting pass (stempas), voting by proxy, and the national voting pass (kiezerspas).
Your vote for the municipal Council Elections counts! That is why this page provides you with all the information you need about voting, including how you can have someone else vote for you (voting by proxy).

have Dutch nationality or another European nationality
have been legally registered in the Netherlands for at least five years and hold a valid residence permit.
You can vote on Wednesday 18 March 2026 between 7.30 am and 9 pm.
Around 23 February 2026, you will receive a candidate list at your home address. On the candidate list, you will find an overview of all political parties participating and the people you can vote for.
Do you need help choosing a party?
If so, you can use an online voting tool: the Wageningen electoral compass. This information will be available online soon.
You will receive the voting pass in your mailbox no later than the first week of March. You must vote in the municipality where you live or are registered. This is also the address to which your voting pass will be sent.
Proof of identity
You can vote with a Dutch passport, identity card, driving licence or residence permit. You can also vote with a passport, identity card or driving licence from an EEA country, or a passport or identity card from Switzerland. Your proof of identity may not be more than five years out of date.
What if my proof of identity was lost or stolen?
You can still vote with a declaration of loss. You can apply for this declaration at the town hall (but please make an appointment). Bring a pass with your photo on it, such as a personal OV chip card.
If you have lost your voting pass or not received one, you can request a replacement from the municipality. This can be done digitally or in person.
Online: The online application must reach the municipality by 5 pm on 13 March at the latest. This requires you to fill in a digital form.(Externe link)
In person: You can apply for a voting pass at the information desk in the town hall until Tuesday 17 March, at 12 noon. You can also come in without an appointment during our opening hours. Don’t forget to bring your proof of identity.
Unable to come to the polling station yourself? For example due to illness, holidays or work? You can ask someone else to vote for you. This is called voting by proxy (volmacht)
Please note that the authorised person:
must cast your vote at the same time as their own and
they may only do so for a maximum of two people
You can authorise someone in two ways:
1. Authorise them by filling out the back of your voting pass (private proxy authorisation)
Fill in the back of your voting pass. Make sure you and the person you authorise both sign the pass.
You can only authorise someone who also lives in Wageningen.
You can only authorise someone using your voting pass until Wednesday 18 March 2026.
When voting, the person voting on your behalf must show your ID, so make sure you give them a copy of your ID.
If you decide to vote yourself after all, you should revoke the private proxy authorisation. To do so, ask your proxy to return your voting pass. You can then use it to vote yourself.
Online: the proxy voting card will only be sent after all voting cards have been dispatched. To request it you must complete an online form (Externe link)an online form.
Please note: apply for your proxy as soon as possible to ensure you receive it in time.
What happens next?
If the request is approved, the person acting as proxy will receive a proof of proxy authorisation by post. This allows them to vote on your behalf.
On Wednesday 18 March 2026, you can vote for the municipal council. That is when the councillors who make up the municipal council until 2030 will be elected.
