The municipality of Wageningen and the executive board of Wageningen University & Research and Idealis are appalled by the discriminating and hateful actions that took place at the student housing facility Bornsesteeg. Insulting texts, aiming at Chinese students, were written on walls and in the elevators, elevators were used as toilets.  These actions do not reflect  the Wageningen culture of tolerance and intercultural respect . There is no room for hateful and discriminatory behaviour in our town and at our university where 110 nationalities live and work together in a  peaceful and tolerant way. We call upon everybody to act accordingly and cherish our international community and its diversity.  We also call upon everybody to reject the discriminatory actions of last weekend. We also wish to take the opportunity to  express our sympathy to the Chinese community in their struggle against the disruptive outbreak of the corona virus.
